Weddings, unnecessary evil?

Most young girls grow up having fairly tales read to them before they go to sleep, their nights are filled with dreams of the moment that they will meet their own prince charming; someone who will give them that something that the likes of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty had. However, what most young girls find out once they are all grown up is that it is quite expensive to get it. It all boils down to one question; is it really worth it to spend all that money on one single day?

People need to understand that the wedding industry is just that, an Industry full of wedding planners wanting to make a kill at your expense. So while there is a lot of good advice out there, there is also advice from people who’ll profit from it. Couples start off well, figuring how much they could save, how much parents would give, and what they already had in their bank accounts. But before they know it, they spent twice what they budgeted for apparel on shoes alone, and the caterers laughed when you told them the food budget. At this point, a lot of couples would just throw costs out the window, and wind up starting a new life together thousands of shillings in debt.

The best thing that couples need to have when planning their wedding is a Budget. They need to use their wedding budget as a tool to figure out what they can cut, what they can save and where other income might come from. Not only will budgeting help you afford your wedding, but it’s an important skill for your married life.
Be careful you’re not spending money where you don’t need to – whether it’s being talked into a more expensive wedding dress, or having a limousine; when your wedding and reception are at the same location. Make sure you know your budget, what’s important to you – and what isn’t.
